The Fund To Promote Awareness of Occupational Therapy is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, committed to ongoing resource development to support targeted education, research, and professional development opportunities that will increase the public’s understanding of occupational therapy. The Fund exists to achieve greater understanding, availability, and use of occupational therapy and to promote the profession’s contributions to health, wellness, participation, productivity, and quality of life in society.
The Fund To Promote Awareness of Occupational Therapy facilitates society’s understanding of and demand for occupational therapy and the profession’s capacity to bring its virtues to more people in existing and future practice and policy environments.
The Fund To Promote Awareness of Occupational Therapy is a charitable and educational organization that has been recognized as exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501 (c)(3), and as a public charity under Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Its principal purpose is to support education related to the use and value of occupational therapy with respect to the public's health, wellness, productivity, and quality of life.
As the “awareness arm” of The American Occupational Therapy Association, The Fund is closely tied to AOTA through its Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation. The Fund Board of Directors is comprised of the AOTA officers, the AOTA Executive Director (ex-officio), and The Fund’s Executive Director (ex-officio). Each Board Director elected by the AOTA membership holds
office coterminous with the office held within AOTA.
